SERVICES - Scanning

In computing, a scanner is a device that optically scans images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image. Common examples found in offices are variations of the desktop (or flatbed) scanner where the document is placed on a glass window for scanning. So one way to get graphics and text into a computer is with a scanner.

Whether you are digitizing slides, negatives, newspaper clippings of all sizes and photos to pass along to family members, creating slide shows for a big event, or simply protecting your memories against natural disasters, MIRAJ will deliver superior results for you.

Please decide what you plan to do with the scans - e.g. email as attachment, add to website, print out, view on screen only - as this will help us determine the best resolution and file format for your requirements.

Scanning Individual Items

We can scan photos and other images up to A4 size for you to take away on CD, USB flash drive, or floppy disk, or sent to you via email. Our standard price for scanning will apply.

If scanning requires enhancement, resizing, editing etc then our standard hourly design rate will apply (subject to a minimum charge).

Document Scanning

The scanning or digitization of paper documents for storage makes different requirements of the scanning equipment used than scanning of pictures for reproduction. Document scans are often processed using OCR technology to create editable and searchable files

Our copiers can also be used as scanners up to A4 size. As they have a document feeder, this means that entire documents can now be scanned in and saved in Acrobat PDF format. Fixed resolutions in 100dpi, 200dpi, 300dpi, 400dpi and 600dpi are available. Please bear in mind that the higher the resolution, the longer it takes and the bigger the file created. Colour files are significantly bigger than Black & White or Greyscale too. Use 100dpi if you only plan on viewing the document on screen. 200dpi is fax resolution and is the minimum suggested for printing out. 300dpi scanning gives better printed results but can produce files over twice the size of 200dpi scanning.

These prices apply for up to A4 pages only. Double sided sheets counted as two pages. Documents must be capable of being fed through the document feeder; if placed on the glass then each item will be charged at the minimum price.

Retouching photos and image manipulation and enhancement can be done on a per job basis.

Basic dust & scratch removal:

While we take care to remove dust from originals, there can sometimes be some residue which, although invisible to the naked eye, is picked up by our scanners. Minor scratches can be removed easily, but larger imperfections take longer to repair (see retouching). This is charged at 50p per scan.

Crop border:

Often a thin black border can appear on scans (i.e. the slide mount or the edge of the negative) - we can remove this for you for 50p per scan.

Retouching:

We can manually improve your images. The services we offer are:

Colour correction
Red eye removal
Major scratch removal
Removal of foreign objects
Removal of tattoos and scars

A flat fee of £15 applies to each image
